Essentials

Spafford is a small town with little commercial enterprise. For most shopping needs, you’ll have to travel a short way. For grocery shopping, the closest Wegmans supermarket is on Loop Road in Auburn, 18 miles west; another is on West Genesee Street in Syracuse, about 24 miles north.

Recreation & Entertainment

In Spafford, the main attractions are the great outdoors. Both Skaneateles Lake and Otisco Lake are great for picnicking, boating, fishing, and watching sunsets. The Spafford Forest, a preserve, has trails and is popular with hunters. Ten Mile Point is a scenic area on the shore of Skaneateles Lake and a popular picnic area.

Transportation & Traffic

Route 41 runs north-south through town. Route 174 runs through the north part of Spafford. Some forested areas in town are not accessible by motor vehicle.

Pros & Cons

Spectacular scenery, small-town living and access to two Finger Lakes are what makes Spafford special. This is a mostly rural town, and you’ll have to travel a ways for most shopping and entertainment needs (other than outdoor options). The cities of Auburn and Cortland aren’t far away.
