Overview

Lafayette is a town in south-central Onondaga County, bordered to the north by Onondaga and Dewitt, to the east by Pompey, to the south by Fabius and Tully, and to the west by Onondaga and Otisco. Lafayette has no village but six hamlets, the largest of which also is named Lafayette.


Essentials

Lafayette has smaller stores like a Dollar General, a Byrne Dairy and a True Value Hardware store. The Onondaga Nation sells cheap cigarettes and gasoline. Neighboring Tully also has similar-size shopping outlets like the Village Peddler country store, a Nice-n-Easy Grocery, and Aldi grocery store and a Dollar General. For a greater selection or variety, the options are just a short drive. For grocery shopping, the closest Wegmans supermarkets are on Onondaga Boulevard in Syracuse (about 12 miles northwest) and in Fayetteville (about 13 miles northeast). The closest Tops Friendly Markets store is on West Genesee Street in Syracuse, about 14 miles northwest. For retail shopping, Syracuse has a wide variety of choices, including Walmart, Target and several malls. 



Recreation & Entertainment

The entertainment options here are of the outdoor variety – hiking, camping, hunting, picnicking, and nearby fishing. Otisco Lake, one of the smaller Finger Lakes, is a quick drive west. Orchard Valley Golf Club is here, and the town has parks and summer camps.



Transportation & Traffic

Lafayette is well-situated along the north-south Interstate 81, which intersects Route 20 in the hamlet of Lafayette. Route 11 also runs north-south through town.



Pros & Cons

This is a small, rural town with lots of wide-open spaces and beautiful landscapes. All the attractions in Syracuse are nearby and easy to get to via Interstate 81.
